Training options - ADVANCED

The Sydney Cytometry core offers advanced training to users for a range of instruments, assays, and software. To see basic training options, please click here. Registered users can see all training request types in PPMS at this link.

Prices for training are listed here under 'General'.

Please note, instruments cannot be booked until biosafety approval has been granted (see step 1) and specific instrument training has been completed. Please see this link for a complete set of steps to get started with Sydney Cytometry.

Advanced PANEL DESIGN

We provide training in the design of high-dimensional (12 - 27 colour) panels for flow cytometry.

Details: Run once per month.
Duration: 2 hr session.
Location: Charles Perkins Centre level 5 core facility.

Advanced instrument optimisation and operation

We provide training for the advanced optimisation and operation of flow cytometers.

Details: Run once per quarter.
Duration: 2 hr session, mostly wet lab.
Location: Charles Perkins Centre level 5 core facility.

10-laser 30-parameter ‘LSR-X’ training

We provide training for operating our 10-laser 30-parameter ‘LSR-X’ cytometer.

Details: instrument training provided upon request.
Duration: 1-2 hr session, mostly wet lab.
Location: Centenary Institute core facility (level 1).

SUSPENSION AND Imaging mass cytometry

We provide training for operating our mass cytometry systems, including the: HELIOS (suspension mass cytometry) and HYPERION (imaging mass cytometry).

Details: training is conducted following the establishment of a mass cytometry project.
Duration: 2 hr session, mostly wet lab.
Location: Charles Perkins Centre level 5 core facility.

More information: The HELIOS is our suspension mass cytometry system, for analysing suspension of single cells with over 40 parameters per cell. You can request HELIOS training below. The HYPERION is our imaging mass cytometry (IMC) system, or analysing tissue sections with up to/over 40 parameters. You can request HYPERION training below.

ADVANCED FLOWJO ANALYSIS

We run regular ‘advanced’ FlowJo training sessions once a month, subject to sufficient interest. Training is split into two streams: FlowJo basic analysis (see this link) and FlowJo advanced analysis (this page).

Details: Run once per month.
Duration: 2 hr session.
Location: Charles Perkins Centre, level 5.

COMPUTATIONAL ANALYSIS of single cell data

Description: We provide training for using various kinds of computational analysis tools, such as:

  • Spanning-tree Progression Analysis of Density-normalized Events (SPADE)

  • Flow Self-Organising Maps (FlowSOM)

  • Visualisation of t-distributed stochastic neighbour embedding (viSNE/tSNE)

  • Development trajectory analysis (Wanderlust)

  • Data manipulation in R

Details: Run once per month.
Duration: 2 hr session.
